The Ninja Waiter at Mimi’s

January 24th, 2006

The family went to Mimi’s Restaurant (located in the Northwest corner of Village Pointe) on Saturday and we got waited on by this very stealth like waiter who was at our table in food, drinks and even take home boxes before we thought of those things. I belive his name was Scott and if you want really great service, this is the guy to ask for.As far as food goes, Mimi’s can be on and off. I did have a pork shank with a cranberry and merlot sauce that did impress. As always, Mimi’s did serve up a lot of food for a very reasonable amount of money and the nut bread made a great mid morning snack the next day!

Greek Island Cafe?

January 2nd, 2006

So what happened?

For years I lived in the Field Club neighborhood, just walking distance to The Greek Islands. A trip to sup on Mousaka or Dolmathes was a regular event. Living out west cut our visits substantially.

When the Greek Island Café opened on 176th & Center my heart leapt with joy. Getting my Greek “fix” was becoming part of my life again. Then out of no where, I drive up and a “For Lease” sign is posted in the window.

“Lord, why have you forsaken me?”

I just don’t get it. The food was good, a whole new crop of customers were becoming loyal to the “son of the Greek Islands”, and damn it, I went there so much they could of stayed open with me as their only customer.

Whatever the reason I hope they work it out and reopen. They are good people serving good food.

Hello Omaha Foodies and Restaurateurs

December 31st, 2005

If you’re new to Omaha or plan on visiting our fair city, and happen to be a foodie, you are in for a treat. Finding a great meal in Omaha is not hard to do, and you don’t have look hard to find it.

The culinary arts thrive in Omaha! Why that happened I don’t know, maybe because we don’t have beaches or mountains so enjoyment of food has become a pastime, maybe because there is a wealth of creative people here or maybe because there is an abnormal amount of wealth.
It doesn’t really matter why. That’s just the way it is. :)

I’m starting a directory to celebrate Omaha’s wealth of good food. I invite every restaurant owner in the metro area to request a logon to add/maintain a listing for free. I built the directory with the ability to search out restaurant features, and menu items, based on things I and my friends have searched for in the past. If there is a criteria I’m missing, please drop me a note. I want this directory to be used.

I imagine someday I can make some pocket change from the site, but for now I just want to build the most comprehensive listing of Omaha area restaurants that is humanly possible (I can’t stand the “Yellow Pages” or the Internet counterpart).

Whether you are a restaurant owner or future directory user I’d love to hear from you.
Bob
